Starting this Thursday, authorities in Telangana are launching a major initiative involving Booth-level officers (BLOs). These officials will begin comprehensive door-to-door visits to manage the Telangana electoral roll revision. This critical exercise is part of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process, ensuring the voter database remains accurate and up-to-date for future democratic participation.
Understanding the Electoral Roll Revision Process
During these scheduled visits, which will span over the next month, each household will be visited at least three times if necessary. BLOs are tasked with distributing and collecting specific enumeration forms to facilitate the Telangana electoral roll revision. Residents are not required to produce any documentation during this specific phase, simplifying the process for the public.
Each voter will receive two enumeration forms. One serves as a formal acknowledgment, while the other is to be completed by the voter. Officials have clarified that there is no immediate pressure to return the documents; they can be submitted during subsequent follow-up visits. In instances where a residence is found locked, the designated official will make repeat attempts, with a target of three visits per household to ensure full coverage. The window for distribution is set for one week, with the deadline for form collection extending until July 24.
Official Oversight and Public Participation
The scale of this operation is significant, involving a massive administrative effort across the state. Approximately 35,985 BLOs, supported by 3,596 supervisors, are deployed to handle the field work. The oversight hierarchy includes 882 assistant electoral registration officers, 119 EROs, and 33 district election officers, all working toward the successful completion of the Telangana electoral roll revision by the scheduled publication date of October 1. Current estimates suggest the state holds roughly 3.4 crore voters, based on 2024 Lok Sabha election data.
To assist the process, each BLO is responsible for an area covering no more than 1,200 voters within a two-kilometer radius. Regional language protocols are being followed, with English forms provided in the Hyderabad district and Telugu forms used across the remainder of the state. Furthermore, recognized political parties have mobilized nearly 49,000 booth-level agents to coordinate with the official teams. These agents, recognized by the Election Commission, are authorized to submit up to 50 forms daily after verifying the credentials of the voters.
