Highlights

  • Telangana government restricts paddy bonus to seven specific fine rice varieties.
  • The initiative aims to meet high market demand and export potential for select rice.
  • Seed dealers must provide farmer-wise purchase data and maintain transparent stock reports.
  • Officials are considering further subsidy expansions for various other crops soon.

The state government of Telangana has officially announced that bonus payments for the current Kharif season will be exclusively limited to farmers cultivating seven specific high-quality rice varieties. This strategic decision was confirmed by the Minister of Agriculture, Tummala Nageswara Rao, following a high-level review meeting with key departmental officials held this Wednesday.

The implementation of this paddy bonus policy is designed to align agricultural production with current market demands and export potential. By focusing on these seven selected varieties, the government aims to encourage a shift toward fine-grain rice production, which is increasingly favored in both domestic and international markets. Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has emphasized that promoting these varieties is essential for the long-term economic prosperity of the local farming community.

Eligible Paddy Varieties and Administrative Oversight

To ensure the effective rollout of the paddy bonus program, authorities have been instructed to maintain strict oversight of the seed distribution process. Tummala Nageswara Rao has mandated that seed dealers must provide transparency by recording and sharing farmer-wise purchase data. Furthermore, daily updates regarding stock levels of these specific rice varieties must be made readily available to the public to prevent any supply chain irregularities.

The seven varieties identified for the bonus eligibility include BPT-5204 (Sambamasuri), RSR-15048 (Telangana Sona), HMT Sona, Jai Sriram, KSM-1638 (Kunaram Sannalu), WGL-44 (Siddhi), and KSM-7715. Agriculture officials are currently working to ensure that seed manufacturing companies maintain an adequate supply of these particular seeds to meet the anticipated demand from farmers across the state.

Additional Support and Future Initiatives

Beyond the targeted paddy bonus initiative, the government is also exploring broader measures to assist the agricultural sector. Minister Tummala Nageswara Rao indicated that officials are actively evaluating the possibility of introducing new subsidy programs for the purchase of seeds across a variety of other crops. A formal decision regarding these additional financial incentives is expected to be finalized in the near future.

This initiative represents a significant push by the Telangana government to modernize agricultural practices and improve income stability for rice cultivators. By incentivizing specific, market-responsive crops, the administration hopes to streamline supply chains while simultaneously ensuring that local farmers receive better value for their harvest. Farmers are encouraged to coordinate with local agricultural offices to verify the eligibility criteria and ensure they are utilizing the approved rice varieties for the upcoming planting cycle.
