Monsoon Season Kicks Off with Heavy Rain and Storms
The southwest monsoon is bringing intense weather conditions across multiple Indian states, including heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, and strong winds. Key areas such as Punjab, Haryana, Uttarakhand, and northeast India are under alert for the coming week.

The southwest monsoon is expected to make a significant impact across several regions, according to the latest weather updates from the Indian Meteorological Department. With strong winds and heavy rainfall forecasted in multiple states, travelers should be prepared for unexpected changes in their travel plans.
Key Areas Affected
Orange Alert Issued for Punjab and Haryana: A new Western Disturbance has caused the Meteorological Department to issue an Orange alert for both states. This warning suggests that heavy rainfall is likely in the coming days, with a potential slight decrease in temperatures.
Storm and Thunderstorm Warning for Uttarakhand: Similar intense weather patterns are expected over the hills of Dehradun, Tehri, Uttarkashi, Chamoli, Bageshwar, and Pithoragarh. The department has warned about lightning strikes, heavy rainfall, and strong winds (40-50 km/h) throughout this week.
Delhi-NCR Impact: Light rain is expected in the Delhi-NCR region. It is advised to stay updated on weather updates for accurate travel planning.
Northern States Prepare for Intense Weather
In addition to Punjab and Haryana, other northern states like Uttar Pradesh are also experiencing thunderstorms with strong gusts of wind. An isolated heavy rainfall event is possible in eastern Rajasthan on June 4, particularly on the borders of Jharkhand.
South India: Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, and Kerala will see isolated heavy to very heavy rains over the next 6-7 days, with thunderstorms and lightning. The Meteorological Department suggests that rain in Kerala is imminent within the next 24 hours following a break from earlier Southwest monsoon activity.
Eastern Indian States: Assam and Meghalaya can expect heavy rainfall during June 6-9, with a possible resurgence on the days leading up to June 8. Other states like Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura could also see sporadic thunderstorms.
