Significant heavy rainfall has been reported across various parts of the Rayalaseema region, prompting agricultural activity and localized flooding. Over the 24-hour window concluding at 8:30 a.m. on Sunday, the Anantapur district recorded a total precipitation of 854.6 mm, averaging 26.7 mm across its 32 mandals. This weather pattern has brought a mix of relief for farmers and infrastructure challenges for the residents.
Impact and Rainfall Distribution in Rayalaseema
Among the affected areas, Raptadu mandal in Anantapur district witnessed the most intense downpour, measuring 102.2 mm. Following this, Yadiki mandal recorded 63.4 mm, while both Anantapur Rural and Anantapur Urban reported substantial rainfall of 62.4 mm and 60.2 mm, respectively. Consequently, low-lying regions in these urban and rural pockets experienced waterlogging and inundation, requiring local administrative oversight.
In the neighboring Satya Sai district, Dharmavaram mandal emerged as the location with the highest recorded rainfall. The broader data indicates that across the 32 mandals, the distribution remained varied: 16 mandals faced moderate levels of precipitation between 15.6 mm and 64.4 mm, while nine others received light rainfall ranging from 2.5 mm to 15.5 mm. Significantly lower amounts of rain were observed in Kalyandurg and Rayadurg, which reported just 1.2 mm and 2.4 mm, respectively.
Agricultural Outlook Following the Rains
The arrival of heavy rainfall has served as a positive signal for the local farming community, who have now shifted focus toward preparing for the Kharif season. There is a strong anticipation for robust groundnut cultivation, which is projected to cover approximately 7 lakh hectares in the region. Agriculture plays a pivotal role in the local economy, and these initial weather patterns are essential for the farmers' confidence in the upcoming harvest.
To support this transition, district administrations in both Anantapur and Satya Sai have proactively initiated the opening of centers dedicated to selling groundnut seeds. By streamlining the availability of necessary inputs, the authorities aim to help farmers optimize their land use. Farmers remain hopeful that this moisture will lead to successful crop yields and provide stable financial returns following the conclusion of the season.
