Visakhapatnam: South Coast Railway Zone Inaugurated

Visakhapatnam, India (HeadlineDock) – Union civil aviation minister Kinjarapu Ram Mohan Naidu marked a significant milestone for the people of north Andhra Pradesh by inaugurating the South Coast Railway Zone on October 9th. The ceremony, held at Ichchapuram Railway Station, was attended by several prominent officials and residents celebrating the realization of their long-term vision.
Decades of Effort Come to Fruition
Addressing the gathering with a sense of pride and accomplishment, Ram Mohan Naidu recalled his multifaceted efforts to bring this zone into existence. He highlighted numerous interventions in Parliament and protest fasts at Ichchapuram as key components of achieving this goal. The inauguration was described by him as a defining chapter in his political career.
The new railway zone is headquartered in Visakhapatnam, with administrative operations now officially underway. Naidu emphasized the promise of faster and more efficient solutions to regional transportation needs, streamlining processes to enhance connectivity among various districts within this zone.
In reference to future plans, Naidu expressed hope that Ichchapuram may see additional Puri–Ahmedabad train services originating from the region. He highlighted development initiatives, mentioning 50 rail over bridges sanctioned for construction in Srikakulam district, estimated at a cost of ₹3,300 crore, including a crucial bridge in Ichchapuram.
The minister unveiled a signboard at AS Peta, planted saplings, and distributed pensions to beneficiaries. These actions symbolized the government's commitment to community welfare as well as infrastructure development. Furthermore, Naidu assured residents of Ichchapuram that their long-standing bridge issue would be permanently resolved.
The construction of the zone's headquarters is progressing rapidly across 54 acres in Visakhapatnam at an estimated cost of ₹400 crore. The inauguration also saw a train journey from Palasa to underscore the new administrative setup.
Local MLA Dola Sree Bala Veeranjaneyaswamy expressed her satisfaction, stating that this establishment is indeed a victory for the state and a significant milestone in regional connectivity. As she noted, the south coast's development would now receive increased focus and resources under the ambit of the new railway zone.
