Train Cancellations Hit Passengers on Delhi-Chandigarh Route
Major disruptions hit the Delhi-Chandigarh train route due to critical infrastructure upgrades and bridge maintenance work, leading to cancellations and diverts for several services.

No surprises for train passengers traveling between Delhi and Chandigarh. Due to crucial infrastructure upgrades, the Indian Railways have canceled several trains from May 30th until June 6th, 2026.
The upgrades include extending loop lines and installing a new electronic interlocking (EI) system at Shahbad Markanda and Mohri stations within the Ambala Railway Division. This work will affect 22 train services—29 others are being redirected or rescheduled to maintain operation during construction.
Key Affected Trains
- The New Delhi-Chandigarh Shatabdi, both up and down services (12045/6)
- The Ajmer-Chandigarh Vande Bharat Express, both up and down services (20977/8)
- Garib Rath express train from Ajmer to Chandigarh (12983, cancelled May 31st & June 2nd) and vice versa (12984, cancelled on June 1st & 3rd)
In addition, the trains scheduled for cancellation include:
- Chandigarh-Yeshwantpur Karnataka Sampark Kranti Express (22686), rerouted via Ambala-Saharanpur-Meerut-Ghaziabad on June 2nd
- The Chandigarh-Madgaon Goa Sampark Kranti Express (12450) rerouted on June 1st
Passengers are advised to verify their travel details and update their routes if necessary before boarding.
In a separate but related development, the South Eastern Railway has also cancelled six trains due to bridge maintenance work taking place between June 4th and 11th in Purulia-Gaurinathdham and Chharra-Purulia-Tamna rail sections. Eight more will have partial terminations or changes in their scheduled journeys.

- Showcasing cancellations on the Asansol-Bokaro Steel City-Asansol MEMU (Multiple engine multiple unit) Train, operated as train No. 63592/63591 on June 4th, 8th & 11th
- Jhargram-Purulia-Jhargram MEMU service, 68023/68024, faces cancellation on June 8th and 11th
- And finally, Adra-Barabhum-Adra MEMU Train No. 68053/68054 is also not running on these dates.
