Delhi Residents Get a Driving License Break
Delhi's Regional Transport Offices (RTOs) are set to reopen, reducing the burden on existing offices and providing closer access for residents to obtain driving licenses and other important vehicle-related services.

Highlights
- •13 new RTO centers will be opened in Delhi districts to reduce travel distances for obtaining driving licenses.
- •'Faceless' online services have already replaced 90% of transportation tasks, but some still require in-person visits.
- •DL-13 vehicle registration series is reintroduced to provide a clearer and streamlined system.
- •Resident satisfaction and convenience are the main goals behind these administrative changes.
Residents of Delhi soon won't have to travel long distances or face the hassles of an online process as several Regional Transport Offices (RTOs) are set to reopen. This significant update by the Delhi Transport Department is designed to alleviate the pressure on existing offices and provide more convenient services.
The reopening will bring relief to those who prefer in-person assistance, particularly for tasks that cannot be completed online. A total of 13 RTOs may be reopened across each district in Delhi, gradually replacing only four current offline service centers—Mall Road, Sarai Kale Khan, Mayur Vihar, and Dwarka.
The decision to reopen the RTOs follows a gradual shift towards more online services. During the pandemic, approximately 90% of transportation-related tasks had been moved online, which eliminated the need for physical visits. However, certain vital services still required face-to-face interaction and verification. Now, with the introduction of new RTO centers, residents in Delhi will no longer have to travel great distances to obtain driving licenses.
New RTO Centers Across Districts
The new RTOs will be strategically located across different parts of Delhi. The new locations are:
- Mall Road – Old Delhi
- Jam Nagar House – New Delhi
- Lado Sarai – South Delhi
- Hari Nagar – West Delhi
- Loni – North-East Delhi
- Sarai Kale Khan – South-East Delhi
- Mayur Vihar – East Delhi
- Wazirpur – North Central Delhi
- Dwarka – South-West Delhi
- Raja Garden – Central Delhi
- Rohini-1 – Outer North Delhi
- Burari – North Delhi
- Rohini-2 – North-West Delhi
The RTOs will be re-introducing the DL-13 vehicle registration series, which had been out of use for a few years. This move aims to streamline the registration process and provide a more systematic approach across the city.
Furthermore, the DL-14 series is being discontinued once again as part of these administrative changes. This decision ensures that the system remains organized and manageable with fewer redundant series.
