Good news for Indian travelers! The widely used digital payment system, United Payments Interface (UPI), has now expanded its reach to Cambodia. This integration is a milestone for both India and Cambodia, as it allows Indian tourists to enjoy the same seamless and convenient payment experience they are accustomed to back home.
New Frontier: UPI in Cambodia
This collaboration was initiated by NPCI Overseas Payments Limited (NIPL) from India and ACLEDA Bank Plc. of Cambodia, connecting Cambodia's KHQR system with India's robust UPI network. The new facility enables Indians visiting Cambodia to make payments using their familiar UPI apps at over 4 million retail outlets across the country.
How does it work? Indians scanning QR codes displayed by Cambodian merchants will be able to complete transactions exactly as they would in domestic settings. Enter the amount, input your UPI PIN, and finish the transaction within seconds, eliminating the need for carrying bulky amounts of cash or relying on foreign payment cards.
This news brings significant advantages to Indian tourists. Say goodbye to the hassles of managing foreign currency issues, high transaction fees, and potential currency exchange challenges. The UPI system facilitates instant payments directly from bank accounts, with no worries about large physical cash transactions.
Popular destinations like Phnom Penh, Siem Reap, and Sihanoukville will be well-equipped to accept these seamless transactions, making it easier for tourists to focus on enjoying their travels without constant financial concerns.
NPCI Overseas Payments Limited (NIPL) plays a pivotal role in facilitating this integration, ensuring that the digital revolution in payment systems reaches far beyond India's borders. The KHQR system of Cambodia is also stepping up its game, aligning with global standards for user-friendly and secure transactions.
