Employees' Provident Fund Organization (EPFO) is set to roll out a new digital platform dubbed as EPFO 3.0, which will expedite the process of withdrawing and transferring funds. According to Union Labor Minister Mansukh Mandaviya, testing has been successfully completed, paving the way for imminent launch.

Key Features of EPFO 3.0

The new system aims to make PF access smoother by eliminating paperwork. Members can now transfer their PF funds directly into bank accounts through Unified Payment Interface (UPI) and UPI-enabled ATMs, significantly reducing the time required for these processes.

  • Withdrawal Rules: Members will have the flexibility to withdraw anywhere between 50% to 75% of their EPF balance through UPI or a UPI-enabled ATM. However, they must maintain at least 25% in the PF account.
  • UPSI Transaction Process: To initiate a transfer, one needs to link Aadhaar and bank accounts with UPI. Once linked, these funds can be accessed by entering the UPI PIN, followed by cash withdrawals or online payments.

The EPFO has also increased its auto-settlement limit from Rs 1 lac to Rs 5 lakh. This change ensures quicker transactions for major life events such as home purchase, education, marriage, and medical treatment.

Other Inclusions in EPFO 3.0

  • New Access Methods: Members can now create UAN through face authentication on the UMANG app, view their passbook instantly online, and update incorrect information without visiting a branch.
  • Broadened Reach: The EPFO service will be accessible via WhatsApp as well. Users can initiate chats by texting 'Hello' to the EPFO's official number, allowing for 24x7 support in local languages.

Currently, the EPFO manages funds worth around Rs 28 lakh crore, and approximately 35.2 million claims up to Rs 5 lac have been settled through auto-settlement as of February 2026. The implementation of EPFO 3.0 will streamline processes, making fund access faster for millions of employees.
