The price of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) cylinders is on the rise, causing concern among consumers. However, Ujjwala Yojana beneficiaries can rest easier knowing they receive their LPG at a significantly reduced rate.
The Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY) offers a 300-rupee discount on the domestic cylinder price, making it more accessible and affordable for millions of families. In Delhi, beneficiaries can secure an LPG cylinder priced at only Rs 613 compared to the non-subsidized rate of Rs 913.
According to government data, approximately 105.5 million women across India are benefiting from this subsidy, receiving cylinders for Rs 813 each as opposed to the market price and supply cost of over Rs 1200. The reduction in cylinder prices is a boon for low-income households, helping them manage their household expenses more effectively.
Eligibility Conditions Under Ujjwala Yojana
To qualify for these benefits, women aged 18 or older must apply through the nearest distributor. Each beneficiary's family must not have any pre-existing domestic LPG connections to be eligible for this scheme.
The required documents include an Aadhaar card, a ration card, bank account information, and necessary declarations. A self-declaration form is also mandatory for migrant applicants, along with proof of address (if different from the Aadhaar card).
Furthermore, all Ujjwala Yojana beneficiaries receive a free initial cylinder refill and stove without having to pay any security deposit.
Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana Benefits
The government offers financial assistance under the PMUY for setting up LPG connections. For a 14.2-kilogram cylinder, individuals receive Rs 2050 in aid covering various expenses like:

- Rs 100 LPG pipe
- Rs 25 domestic gas consumer card
