He officially sanctioned two new bus depots, which will be established at Eturunagaram and Peddapalli. Furthermore, he announced that the RTC Hospital located in Tarnaka has successfully received an upgrade, transitioning into a super-speciality facility to better serve employees and the public.
Infrastructure Growth and Financial Management
The transport body has been focusing on modernization and financial health. Between 2023 and 2026, the TGSRTC successfully procured 2,815 buses with an investment of Rs 1,078 crore. This fleet expansion includes the integration of 1,050 electric buses, which are currently in active service. Officials have been tasked with conducting a detailed analysis to differentiate between profitable and loss-making routes to ensure sustainable operations.
Financial stability has remained a key focus, with officials reporting a reduction in significant liabilities. Credit Cooperative Society (CSS) arrears have been brought down from Rs 1,096.90 crore to Rs 862 crore, while Provident Fund arrears have seen a decrease from Rs 2,018.15 crore to Rs 1,714.39 crore. Additional improvements were noted in the Staff Retirement Benefit Scheme (SRBS) and SBT arrears, which declined by Rs 493.02 crore, signaling better fiscal health for the organization.
The ministry is also prioritizing human resources and welfare. Minister Ponnam Prabhakar has instructed senior leadership to finalize all pending compassionate appointments. Regarding the status of previously dismissed employees, 244 out of 490 have already been reinstated, and the review process for the remaining cases is being accelerated. To date, 1,137 compassionate appointments have been finalized under the ‘Breadwinner Scheme’ and medical invalidation grounds, including roles for conductors, drivers, shramiks, and constables.
Finally, the government is evaluating the broad impact of the ‘Mahalakshmi Scheme,’ which aims to enhance women’s economic empowerment. Feedback is being gathered from women’s groups that operate 553 hired buses. The TGSRTC currently operates a network of 10,173 buses, supported by a dedicated workforce of 38,128 employees. The system handles approximately 61 lakh passengers daily, covering a distance of 35 lakh kilometers.
