The Telangana Cabinet has formally requested the central government to accelerate the approval process for the ambitious Hyderabad Metro Rail (HMR) Phase-II project. This expansion is considered a critical measure to alleviate persistent traffic congestion and enhance public transportation infrastructure for the city's rapidly expanding population. During the latest administrative briefing, officials highlighted the urgency of securing necessary clearances to keep the development on schedule.
In addition to seeking faster project approvals, the state government is pushing for the immediate release of funds through the Indian Railway Finance Corporation (IRFC). These financial resources are earmarked for the successful transition and takeover of Phase-I operations from the current concessionaire, L&T. N. Uttam Kumar Reddy, the minister overseeing irrigation and civil supplies, emphasized that timely financial support is essential for the seamless progression of urban transit goals.
Push for Digital Governance and Infrastructure
The state administration has also appealed to Union ministers and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) members of Parliament representing the region to advocate for these projects. By aligning efforts across political lines, the state aims to ensure that infrastructure development remains prioritized, urging against any potential delays in the release of sanctioned loans or procedural bottlenecks.
Furthermore, the Telangana Cabinet has officially inaugurated a major transition toward paperless administration through the Telangana Digital Cabinet initiative. As of Thursday, all cabinet meetings are being conducted utilizing a modernized digital framework. This shift is designed to enhance efficiency and promote a more sustainable, tech-driven approach to governmental operations.
As part of this digital transformation, the information technology minister, D. Sridhar Babu, distributed specialized tablet devices to the Chief Minister, the Deputy Chief Minister, and all members of the council. These devices now serve as the primary medium for accessing cabinet agendas, meeting notes, and critical policy documents. By eliminating the necessity for physical paperwork, the government intends to streamline decision-making processes and foster a more agile administrative environment for future cabinet sessions.
