Telangana has received the 'Inclusive Enterprise and Ecosystem Development Award' from the MNRE for its strategic approach to wind energy. Supported by NIWE, the state is actively mapping high-density wind zones and developing infrastructure to boost its current 128.8 MW renewable capacity.

Telangana Wins MNRE Award For Ecosystem Driven Approach To Renewables

Highlights

  • Telangana won the “Inclusive Enterprise and Ecosystem Development Award” from the MNRE.
  • Union Minister Pralhad Joshi presented the award at the Global Wind Day 2026 conference.
  • NIWE identified significant wind energy potential across several districts, including Nalgonda and Hyderabad.
  • TGREDCO has installed 139 wind monitoring masts to support future infrastructure development.

The state of Telangana has been honored with the prestigious “Inclusive Enterprise and Ecosystem Development Award.” This recognition, bestowed by the Ministry of Non-Renewable Energy (MNRE), highlights the state's strategic and comprehensive approach toward fostering a sustainable ecosystem for renewable energy growth. Union Minister Pralhad Joshi presented the award, marking a significant milestone in the state’s journey toward clean energy.

Advancing Telangana's Renewable Energy Ecosystem

The accolade was received during the Global Wind Day 2026 national conference, which took place in Goa on Monday. During the event, officials emphasized that Telangana has been actively working to unlock its vast renewable energy potential. Key stakeholders showcased the state's readiness to become a hub for clean power, driven by rigorous data collection and strategic infrastructure mapping.

The National Institute of Wind Energy (NIWE) has played a pivotal role in identifying high-density wind zones across the state. Several districts, including Nalgonda, Mahbubnagar, Rangareddy, Medak, Hyderabad, and Nizamabad, have been identified as primary locations with significant wind resource density. To capitalize on these findings, the Telangana Renewable Energy Development Corporation Limited (TGREDCO), with technical backing from NIWE, has successfully installed 139 wind monitoring masts. Furthermore, private sector developers have contributed by adding an additional 25 masts, ensuring a comprehensive dataset to guide future investment and development.

Future Roadmap and Capacity Expansion

Despite these extensive preparatory efforts and the identification of significant resource potential, the current installed wind capacity in Telangana remains at 128.8 MW. Government officials have highlighted that this discrepancy represents a major growth opportunity. The state is now focusing on accelerating the expansion of its renewable energy portfolio through several structural improvements.

To attract greater investment, the administration is prioritizing transparent, tariff-based competitive bidding processes. Additionally, the development of pre-cleared land parcels and the provision of robust, assured evacuation infrastructure are being treated as key enablers. These initiatives are designed to simplify the entry for investors, reduce project gestation periods, and maximize the utilization of the state's natural resources. By aligning its policies with industry best practices, Telangana aims to significantly scale its contribution to the national green energy goals, transforming its identified wind potential into operational capacity in the coming years.
