The upcoming meeting scheduled for April 13, 2023, holds significant implications for central government employees and pensioners. This pivotal session will see the finalization of the share memorandum for the 8th Pay Commission, addressing key issues such as fitment factors, allowances, and salaries.
Key Points to Be Addressed at the Meeting
The National Council of Joint Consultative Machinery (NC-JCM) drafting committee will convene to finalize crucial aspects related to employees' salary structures. This meeting aims to consolidate various proposals and feedback received from employee organizations, further shaping the commission's recommendations.
Earlier in March 2023, a preliminary meeting was held where these proposals were reviewed. Employee organizations have submitted multiple recommendations for revision and improvement, advocating for an increase in fitment factors to ensure they align with inflationary pressures. The NC-JCM Secretary Shiv Gopal Mishra has since reached out to the Commission, urging them to consider incorporating nine additional issues into their deliberations.
Currently, employees receive a dearness allowance (DA) of 58%, which is expected to increase to 60%. Moreover, employee unions are pushing for DA to be integrated into the basic salary. This move would result in an overall rise in salaries and associated benefits such as house rent allowance (HRA), travel allowances (TA), pensions, and gratuity.
The memorandum created after this crucial meeting is expected to address these pressing issues, serving as a foundational document for the Pay Commission. It could significantly impact the pay packages of millions of employees and pensioners in the coming months.
