Mallikarjun Kharge, president of the All India Congress Committee (AICC) and Leader of the Opposition in Rajya Sabha, has officially filed his nomination papers seeking re-election to the upper house of Parliament. This move comes as his term is set to expire on June 25. The re-election bid was accompanied by Rahul Gandhi, who flew from New Delhi to Bengaluru to personally support Kharge.

Local Politics and Supporting Cast

The event attracted notable political figures including D.K. Shivakumar, K.Siddaramaiah, and leaders from the Congress Party. Sharath Bachegowda, a Congress MLA, expressed confidence: "We will comfortably secure these seats." Additionally, Bachegowda praised Kharge for his relentless work against the BJP's policies in Rajya Sabha.

Kharge represents Kalaburagi and previously held the Gurmatkal Assembly seat. His role as Leader of the Opposition has been marked by a strong opposition to the Bharatiya Janata Party's initiatives, particularly their unfriendly measures toward minorities and sensitive issues.

Kharge's nomination is part of a broader strategy from the Congress Party. Additionally, Mansoor Ali Khan has been nominated for the Rajya Sabha. Mannoor expressed gratitude to Kharge: "I intend to champion all our regional and national issues in the upper house," he said.
