Meerut, Uttar Pradesh (UP) – Enhanced surveillance and joint investigation efforts are underway following reports of suspicious drone-like objects flying over the Meerut Cantonment area. According to local officials, these concerns were first alerted on May 30 evening when information was received about camera-equipped drones seen in the cantonment vicinity.
In response, a comprehensive search operation involving military and police personnel has been launched around the Sardhana Road, Kankerkhera, RVC, and Ganganagar areas. Surveillance teams are thoroughly examining CCTV footage to piece together the exact nature of these sightings. The Additional City Superintendent of Police, Vinayak Gopal Bhonsle, emphasized that the matter is being taken seriously and tasked relevant units with investigating.
Joint Security Initiative
"Taking this information very seriously," Bhonsle said, "a taskforce comprising specialized police units, social media monitoring cells, as well as Army personnel were assembled to investigate. Senior officers from both the Army and central agencies attended a meeting to ensure that security protocols are followed." The senior officer further noted that no confirmation has been received regarding any incident of drones being shot down. Any unauthorized drone flights in restricted military zones can lead to severe legal consequences.
The investigation continues as law enforcement officials collaborate with specialized Army units, following the initial sighting on May 30 evening. These drone sightings have placed security agencies on high alert given the sensitive nature of the area around Meerut Cantonment. Additional action will be taken based on the findings of this ongoing operation.
