Hyderabad: Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy recently held a significant meeting with AICC president Mallikarjun Kharge in Hyderabad, focusing on the imminent Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls and other political developments in the state. This strategic dialogue aimed to prevent wrongful deletions during the SIR process and outlined comprehensive measures to ensure voter rights are safeguarded.
Strategic Steps for Electoral Roll Revision
The Chief Minister briefed Kharge on several preventive strategies, including directives for ministers assigned as constituency in-charges. They were instructed to dedicate one full day every 10 days to party activities and interact with grassroots workers. Additionally, Reddy highlighted the importance of his own involvement, spending one field day every 10 days and reserving three days monthly for organisational affairs.
Revanth Reddy also elaborated on the party's strategy to monitor the SIR process closely. He assigned a special network involving Congress party leaders and workers to observe booth-level officers (BLOs) meticulously, ensuring that only eligible voters remain registered. This proactive monitoring is pivotal in safeguarding democratic processes.
Detailed challenges, such as potential issues faced by Lambadas, Adivasis, and migrant workers were discussed. These communities may face difficulties due to migration, posing a risk of genuine voters being deleted. The need for increased vigilance was reiterated to prevent wrongful deletions and ensure that no eligible voter is compromised.
The meeting took place at a hotel near the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport in Shamshabad, where Kharge was staying on a brief stopover. While half of the five-year term under Congress rule in Telangana remains, the Chief Minister provided updates from recent Political Affairs Committee (PAC) meetings.
During their discussion, Revanth Reddy underlined that welfare and developmental initiatives by the government, combined with organisational restructuring efforts by the Congress party, are crucial for maintaining public trust. These measures indicate a concerted effort to strengthen both citizen engagement and internal party structures as they navigate the final years of current governance.
