Bhubaneswar: The state of Odisha is stepping up its security measures along the Kendrapara coastal region amid apprehensions of potential illegal infiltration through sea routes, following intensified verification and eviction drives in neighboring West Bengal. Local security agencies have heightened surveillance to prevent any unauthorized entry into the area.
Enhanced Surveillance Along Vulnerable Stretch
The Mahakalpada and Rajnagar areas are particularly prone to such threats, and marine police stations have intensified their operations along these stretches. The security forces are employing advanced technologies like drones for round-the-clock surveillance and conducting strict verification drives at night.
According to sources close to the investigation, thousands of suspected illegal immigrants, without valid documents, may be stranded near the West Bengal border due to recent crackdowns there. These individuals could attempt to sneak into Odisha through coastal pockets, prompting the state government to tighten vigilance over sensitive marine routes.
Coastal Security Operations
In strict adherence to directives from the Kendrapara Superintendent of Police, security personnel are conducting regular patrols 30 to 50 nautical miles off the coast. This ensures continuous monitoring and early detection of suspicious activities. Fishing activities in this region have also attracted extra scrutiny. Presently, 392 registered fishing boats operate along the coastline under increased surveillance.
"We're closely watching every intelligence input regarding sea routes," stated a police official, emphasizing the thorough verification process for individuals using such routes. 'Fishing cards, Aadhaar cards and other documents are being rigorously checked,' he added, ensuring that those without valid identification are detained and verified by relevant police stations."
