Chennai/Amaravati: In a surprising turn of events, Tamil Nadu Industries Minister S Keerthana faced intense trolling over her video that promoted the state's industrial potential. Wearing a purple suit and pitching Tamil Nadu as India's future investment and innovation powerhouse, Keerthana highlighted single-window clearances, AI-driven infrastructure, green hydrogen projects, advanced manufacturing, and the burgeoning space economy under Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay.
Support from Unexpected Source
The video quickly attracted criticism from trolls on social media and opposition parties. However, an unexpected ally emerged in Andhra Pradesh IT Minister Nara Lokesh. In a bold statement supporting Keerthana's efforts to actively market her state, Lokesh commended her proactive outreach to investors by stating that "Every Industries Minister must now actively market their state, engage directly with investors and build confidence among businesses."
Lokesh also echoed Prime Minister Narendra Modi's calls for states to become more competitive and growth-oriented to bolster India's economy. In a lighter political jibe, he said Andhra Pradesh would offer Tamil Nadu "healthy competition" in the race for investments.
Keerthana, 29 years old, is not only the youngest minister in the Cabinet but also the first woman and youngest contestant to win from Sivaganga constituency. The Ministry's strategic decisions have shifted the optics of how a Chief Minister in Tamil Nadu looks, often in complete contrast to the traditional white veshti-clad image of previous leaders. This shift aims at projecting a younger, more educated leadership team.
