Liverpool - June 1st marked another blow to Indian households, as the prices of commercial gas cylinders saw yet another hike. The ongoing inflationary pressures have led oil companies to increase the price of 19-kilogram commercial gas cylinders by ₹42 since May 1st.

Cylinder Price Increases in Major Metro Cities

The latest prices of these cylinders vary across major cities, with Delhi seeing a rate rise to ₹3,113.50 from ₹3,071.50 previously. Bengaluru follows close behind at ₹3,198, while Mumbai sees an increment to ₹3,067.50. Additionally, Kolkata and Chennai have witnessed price hikes by ₹53 and ₹46 respectively, reaching ₹3,255.50 and ₹3,283.

Lucknow and Jaipur are also not spared, with cylinder prices hitting ₹3,236 and ₹3,155 respectively. Even smaller metros like Ahmedabad record a price hike to ₹920 for 14.2 kg cylinders.

The increase in commercial gas cylinders has been particularly significant since the Middle Eastern war broke out on February 28th, with overall prices rising by ₹1,373 and domestic cylinder prices increasing by ₹60 over this period.

Inflation Impact: Price Increases for Non-Domestic Cylinders

While commercial cylinders are becoming more expensive, the situation is slightly different for non-domestic 5-kg gas cylinders. Non-domestic users also have to contend with price increases. For instance, in Delhi, a 5-kg cylinder now costs ₹821.50, up from ₹810 earlier.

This hike comes despite the fact that domestic cooking gas cylinders remain unaffected and are priced at ₹913, ₹916.50, and ₹920 in Delhi, Jaipur, and Ahmedabad respectively—signaling a significant disparity between uses of LPG across various sectors.

A detailed price list for 5-kg cylinders also shows increases in refill options ranging from ₹354.50 to ₹765.50, with a new cylinder costing anywhere from ₹1,765.50 to ₹1,779.50.
