- •Siddu's decision influenced by lack of Hindi proficiency and local political pressure
- •Continuity expected with current ministers as he seeks to complete term
On Tuesday, General Secretary of All India Congress Committee (AICC), K.C. Venugopal, dismissed reports suggesting a transfer of power in Karnataka as "speculative" and clarified that such discussions did not arise during meetings with Chief Minister Sidaramaiah and other central party leaders at Indira Bhavan.
During the meeting, the discussion centered on upcoming Rajya Sabha elections for Karnataka. According to sources, Siddaramaiah received offers from AICC leaders for a Rajya Sabha seat in exchange for relinquishing his role as Chief Minister. Additionally, it was proposed that his son would ascend to the Deputy Chief Minister position.
Rejection of Offers
Siddaramaiah remained resolute, opting to continue his term despite these offers. Sources close to him stated that Siddu's unwillingness stemmed from a lack of proficiency in Hindi, which he claimed would be an impediment for national-level politics. Moreover, significant pressure from local officials and ministers likely influenced his decision as well.
After the meeting, Siddaramaiah left abruptly, leaving behind details on offers received unexplained. Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar participated in a brief session with central party leaders but did not provide any further commentary due to his evident dissatisfaction.
K.C. Venugopal:The General Secretary highlighted that the discussions were purely focused on Rajya Sabha elections for Karnataka, stating, "The seats (candidates) for Rajya Sabha and Council Polls would be announced together with Jharkhand, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, and Madhya Pradesh."
