The Indian Youth Congress (IYC) ignited a new chapter in India's political discourse on Tuesday by launching the 'Indian Youth Cockroaches' campaign. This movement, led by Manish Sharma and Uday Bhanu Chib, seeks to reclaim a term that has been used mockingly against protesting youth.

Reclaiming the 'Cockroach' Narrative

The genesis of this term began with Abhijit Dipke, founder of the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), a satirical outfit. The CJP was established in response to Chief Justice Surya Kant's comments comparing unemployed youth engaged in activism and journalism to 'cockroaches'. This controversial moniker gained traction after being adopted by various protest movements, leading the IYC to transform it into a platform for their anti-corruption stance.

Chib emphasized that this new movement would extend not just online but also through grassroots mobilization. He stated, "Young people raising concerns over unemployment and alleged institutional failures are being labeled as 'anti-national,' jailed, intimidated, and silenced."

In the pursuit of jobs, justice, and accountability, Sharma declared, "These Indian Youth Cockroaches are those who refuse to stay silent, continue resisting despite FIRs, jail, intimidation, and repression."

The IYC further underscored its intent by launching a 'Sack Pradhan' petition against Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over repeated paper leak incidents. Manu Jain, National Secretary of the Youth Congress, highlighted that this campaign aims to mobilize young people across India.

Said Jain, "Through social media, AI-driven campaigns and ground mobilization, we are building a national movement demanding jobs, justice, and accountability."
