A tragic BR-070 accident in the rural area of Várzea Grande, Mato Grosso, has claimed the lives of a father and his son. The incident occurred late Thursday night, leaving the local community in mourning as authorities launch an investigation into the fatal collision.

The victims have been identified as 43-year-old Solemar Rodrigues Mateus and his 17-year-old son, Lucas Matheus Duarte Rodrigues. According to police reports, the pair was traveling on a Honda CG 150 Titan KS motorcycle when they were struck from behind by a Ford Cargo 815 truck around 11:30 PM at kilometer 529 of the BR-070 highway. The impact caused the motorcycle to be dragged for approximately 100 meters.
Following the initial collision, the two victims were thrown onto the pavement. Authorities state that a third vehicle, described as a white cattle truck, subsequently struck the father and son while traveling in the opposite direction. This second vehicle failed to stop and fled the scene immediately after the incident, leaving the victims at the site.
Ongoing Investigation
Emergency medical teams from the Samu arrived at the scene shortly after the accident, but were only able to confirm that both victims had died instantly. Law enforcement officials conducted a breathalyzer test on the driver of the first truck, a 30-year-old man, which returned a negative result for alcohol consumption.
However, police have confirmed that the driver of the first truck faces charges including vehicular manslaughter and driving without a valid Carteira Nacional de Habilitação (driver's license). The Delegacia Especializada de Delitos de Trânsito (Deletran) has taken over the investigation.
