  • AIIMS Bibinagar marked World Blood Donor Day with a week-long awareness campaign.
  • Events included radio broadcasts, educational quizzes, and community outreach in Maliyala village.

In a proactive effort to emphasize the importance of voluntary donation, AIIMS Bibinagar recently conducted a comprehensive blood donation awareness programme. The initiative took place in the local rural community of Maliyala village, perfectly timed to coincide with the global observance of World Blood Donor Day.

To ensure the message reached a wide audience, the medical institution utilized its dedicated platform, the AIIMS Bibinagar Community Radio Station, broadcasting on 89.6 FM. This outreach was part of a broader week-long series of events that aimed to educate the public on how a single contribution can save multiple lives. The campaign was guided by the current World Health Organization (WHO) theme, “One Drop of Humanity: Give Blood, Save Lives,” which highlights the humanitarian necessity of maintaining a steady supply of blood.

Promoting Community Health and Voluntary Donation

The awareness drive included a variety of motivational sessions tailored for different groups. MBBS students participated in informative workshops and quiz competitions designed to deepen their understanding of the medical and ethical principles behind blood donation. Additionally, specialized awareness sessions were organized for NCC personnel stationed at a construction site within the campus grounds to encourage their participation in the noble cause.

The week of events reached its climax with a successful blood donation camp held in the academic block of the AIIMS Bibinagar campus. The response was heartening, with 93 enthusiastic volunteers stepping forward to contribute. The event saw the active participation of key administrative and academic leadership, including Executive Director Dr. Amita Aggarwal, Dean of Academics Dr. Nitin Ashok John, and Deputy Director (Administration) Rajneesh Mishra.

As a significant highlight of the occasion, the institution unveiled a new educational resource titled “Blood Line.” This interactive book, authored by Dr. Aswin K. Mohan, a senior resident in the Transfusion Medicine Department, serves as a comprehensive guide to promote the culture of voluntary blood donation. Through these strategic efforts, the institution continues to bridge the gap between medical expertise and community service, ensuring that life-saving resources remain accessible to those in critical need.
