Highlights

  • Uddhav Thackeray accused the BJP of embezzling Ram Temple donations in Ayodhya.
  • An FIR was filed following an SIT report, leading to eight arrests over fund misappropriation.
  • The Shiv Sena (UBT) claims their donated silver bricks are missing from the temple site.
  • Thackeray criticized the BJP for engineering party defections to influence electoral outcomes.

Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray has intensified his political offensive against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), specifically citing alleged financial irregularities involving donations made to the Ram Temple in Ayodhya. During a rally held in Yavatmal, the former Chief Minister accused the ruling party of betraying Hindu sentiments and exploiting public emotions for political gain, labeling their actions as a betrayal of the faith.

The controversy surrounding the Ram Temple donations has become a central theme in Thackeray's recent critiques. He explicitly claimed that silver bricks, which had been contributed by the Shiv Sena (UBT) before the temple's construction began, had gone missing. Thackeray questioned the whereabouts of these valuable contributions, asserting that such mismanagement is not only an affront to his party but a broader insult to Hindus across the country. He vowed that his faction would spearhead protests to achieve what he described as a 'BJP-mukt Ram', suggesting a movement to distance the temple administration from the party's influence.

Allegations of Misappropriation and Political Strategy

The accusations follow a specific incident where an FIR was lodged regarding the alleged embezzlement of funds. This legal action was prompted by a preliminary report from a three-member Special Investigation Team (SIT), which had been commissioned by the Uttar Pradesh government to investigate claims of misappropriation that emerged on June 7. Reports indicate that eight individuals, who were involved in handling cash and valuables donated to the temple, were arrested and subsequently remanded in judicial custody until June 29. Investigators have reported recovering approximately Rs 79.85 lakh in connection with these claims.

Beyond the temple dispute, Uddhav Thackeray attacked the BJP for its political maneuvers, suggesting that the party intentionally destabilizes other political organizations to deflect public attention from pressing issues. He specifically targeted rebel MP Sanjay Deshmukh, who defected to the ruling Shiv Sena, challenging his commitment to public service and the welfare of farmers. Thackeray urged party supporters to ensure that such defectors are held accountable in the 2029 elections.

Furthermore, Thackeray dismissed concerns regarding potential fund shortages among rebel members who had switched loyalties, emphasizing that development funds belong to the state and not to any single political entity. He concluded his address by asserting the resilience of his faction, maintaining that neither his party nor the Thackeray family can be pushed out of the political landscape, despite the ongoing challenges and electoral pressures exerted by the current administration.
