Telangana CEO Sets Strict July 25 Deadline for Voter List Enumeration

The Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Telangana, C. Sudarshan Reddy, has officially announced the commencement of a special intensive revision (SIR) for the state's electoral rolls. This significant administrative exercise is set to begin on June 25, marking the start of a crucial phase where booth level officers (BLOs) will initiate a comprehensive house-to-house enumeration process to update voter information.

Strict Deadlines and Electoral Roll Purification

During the briefing held at BRKR Bhavan, C. Sudarshan Reddy emphasized the urgency and importance of this drive. He explicitly set a hard deadline of July 25 for the submission of all voter enumeration forms, cautioning that this timeframe will not be extended. The primary objective of this initiative is to ensure a high level of accuracy within the voter database, with a specific focus on identifying and removing records of duplicate, deceased, or migrated voters.

The authorities have reported that mapping progress has exceeded 70 per cent across Telangana, with rural districts demonstrating strong participation rates of over 80 per cent. Conversely, urban centers such as the GHMC (Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation) area and Medchal-Malkajgiri have shown lower completion percentages. Specifically, Hyderabad stands at 45.5 per cent, Medchal at 43.5 per cent, Rangareddy at 56.5 per cent, and Sangareddy at 66 per cent. These statistics highlight the need for a focused effort to improve accuracy in these urban pockets during the upcoming voter registration exercise.

Addressing Anomalies and Administrative Integrity

The Chief Electoral Officer revealed that mapping activities identified anomalies in approximately 85 lakh voter records. To resolve these issues, individuals with flagged records will receive official notices and will be required to present relevant documentation before Electoral Registration Officers (EROs). These officials are tasked with conducting formal hearings to address discrepancies, and they must provide clear justifications for any rejections in their official orders. The process also includes provisions for appeals to the District Collector or the CEO to ensure transparency and justice.

Furthermore, C. Sudarshan Reddy issued a stern warning regarding the professional conduct of electoral staff. He stated that any BLOs found misguiding voters or failing to adhere to official procedures will face strict disciplinary action. In response to concerns raised about the qualifications of staff in the GHMC area, he confirmed that the majority of personnel have been replaced with regular employees, including junior and senior assistants, in strict accordance with the guidelines set forth by the Election Commission. This move is intended to ensure the integrity of the voter roll remains uncompromised.
