Security forces have significantly ramped up search operations in Manipur following a recent surge in regional instability. Authorities confirmed that intensified combing efforts in several villages within the Kangpokpi district have successfully led to the discovery of a substantial cache of illicit arms and ammunition. This proactive security initiative aims to restore stability and curb ongoing violence in the region.
Strategic Security Measures in Manipur
As part of a broad, coordinated drive to maintain law and order, security personnel have successfully dismantled more than 35 bunkers that were illegally established by local residents. In a simultaneous operation conducted by the Indian Army and the Assam Rifles in the Churachandpur district, one militant cadre associated with the United Kuki National Army (UKNA) was neutralized. During this same action, additional weaponry and munitions were recovered, further weakening the operational capabilities of armed groups in the area.
The mission has also yielded intelligence-based results in other districts. Officials reported the arrest of three hardcore militants linked to the Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP) and the Socialist Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (SOREPA). These individuals were apprehended in Imphal West and Bishnupur districts. Investigators noted that these suspects were allegedly involved in a series of criminal incidents and violent activities that have plagued the state. Furthermore, four other individuals were taken into custody for detailed verification regarding their potential involvement in illicit activities.
Heightened Surveillance and Public Safety
To effectively prevent the movement of anti-social elements and suspicious transport, security forces have established a total of 116 nakas and checkpoints across both the valley and hill districts of Manipur. These strategic positions allow security personnel to monitor transit routes closely. Additionally, forces are actively providing escorts for vehicles, including those transporting essential commodities, along the Imphal-Jiribam National Highway (NH-37) to ensure uninterrupted supply chains.
The ongoing search operations in Manipur have received recognition from state leadership. Former Chief Minister N Biren Singh publicly praised the efforts of the newly appointed DGP Mukesh Singh for his hands-on leadership style. The former Chief Minister highlighted that the DGP is personally supervising the combing operations to root out criminal elements.
