  • No PUC, No Fuel – Vehicles in specified NCR areas will not receive fuel if they lack a valid PUC Certificate starting October 1st.
  • Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) Cameras Installed – Petrol stations will use ANPR cameras to monitor compliance strictly.
  • PUC Cost and Renewal – Initial issuance costs range from Rs. 50 for two-wheelers to Rs. 150 for diesel vehicles, with a six-month renewal requirement.

Starting October 1st, the Uttar Pradesh government has made a significant move to curb air pollution. Vehicles in eight districts of the NCR (National Capital Region) will no longer receive petrol or diesel if they do not possess a valid PUC Certificate (Pollution Under Control Certificate). This decision was reached during a high-level meeting led by Uttar Pradesh Chief Secretary SP Goyal on Wednesday.

A valid PUC Certificate verifies that your vehicle's emissions and pollution levels meet government standards. It is required for all vehicles according to the Motor Vehicles Act of 1988.

No-PUC, No Fuel

The rule will apply to Gautam Buddha Nagar (Noida), Ghaziabad, Hapur, Bulandshahr, Meerut, Muzaffarnagar, Baghpat, and Shamli. Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) cameras will be installed at petrol stations to ensure only vehicles with valid PUC Certificates can fuel up.

Understanding the PUC Process:

  • To obtain a PUC Certificate, first visit an authorized testing center, usually found at petrol stations. A technician inserts a probe into your vehicle's exhaust pipe to test pollutants like carbon monoxide and hydrocarbons.
  • This check typically takes just 5 to 10 minutes, after which you receive the certificate immediately if your emissions meet standards.

For two-wheelers (petrol), the cost ranges from Rs. 50 to Rs. 70. For three-wheelers, it's between Rs. 70 and 100. Petrol cars usually require a cost of Rs. 90 to 120, whereas diesel, CNG, or LPG cars range from Rs. 100 to 150.

The PUC Certificate is valid for one year upon initial issuance and needs renewal every six months thereafter.

Downloading Your PUC Online:

  • Visit the Parivahan website, select 'PUC Certificate' option, enter your vehicle registration number's last five characters or chassis number, fill the captcha, and click on 'PUC Details'. Download or print out your certificate.

The new rule underscores the importance of keeping vehicles in compliance with emission norms to reduce pollution levels. This initiative aims to significantly improve air quality in NCR by ensuring every vehicle running on public roads meets the required standards.
