Vijayawada: In a bid to reassure the public amidst scorching temperatures reaching nearly 49 degrees Celsius, Energy Minister Gottipati Ravi Kumar clarified that sporadic power interruptions in certain districts are due to technical issues triggered by extreme demand and weather conditions. The minister addressed concerns at a press conference held in Amaravati on Tuesday.

Minister Ravi Kumar stated that while temperatures soared, resulting in increased electricity consumption, the state has sufficient power supplies. Transformers overheated and transmission lines were damaged due to excessive load and harsh weather. He urged citizens facing issues to contact the toll-free helpline 1912 for immediate resolution or reach out to dedicated call centers under all three DISCOMs (Distribution Companies) functioning around-the-clock with extra manpower.

Technical Issues & Extreme Weather Damage

Furthermore, strong winds and unseasonal rains contributed to the collapse of electricity poles and snapped conductors in several districts. This resulted in temporary disruptions. Ravi Kumar commended the hardworking electric personnel for their continuous efforts in restoring supply.

The minister also criticized the former YSR Congress government, alleging a lack of infrastructure development during its five-year tenure. He highlighted that the current administration has embarked on ambitious transmission projects worth nearly 6000 crore, with several substations expected to be operational by October this year.

Additionally, he warned about unauthorized hoardings and banners damaging power lines in heavy winds, emphasizing strict action against illegal installations. Ravi Kumar appealed for public cooperation during emergency repair works to ensure smooth supply continuity.
