Following a tragic fire accident that claimed two lives, authorities have officially sealed the Maara Restobar located in Dattagalli, Mysuru. The incident, which occurred on Monday, also left six individuals injured and prompted an immediate investigation into the safety standards of the establishment. Emergency response teams successfully rescued 15 people who were trapped inside the building as the blaze spread through the second-floor premises.
Investigation and Legal Action Following Fire Accident
The Kuvempunagar police have initiated legal proceedings by registering a First Information Report (FIR) against several individuals. The charges name Prretham Punit, the owner of the bar, as the primary accused. Additionally, Keshavamurthy, the owner of the building, and other unnamed parties have been listed as accused. Prretham Punit is currently receiving medical treatment for injuries sustained during the fire accident.
Eyewitnesses and local residents reported that the fire erupted while customers were present for lunch. While initial assessments suggest a potential short circuit as the cause, investigations are ongoing to determine the exact circumstances. Local accounts allege that the rooftop structure, which featured decorative items and was covered with dry straw, provided fuel that allowed the flames to intensify rapidly within the confined space. Two workers, identified as Sahil and Prakash, were tragically found deceased in the kitchen area.
The incident has drawn significant attention from government officials. Dr. Yathindra Siddaramaiah, the Minister of Urban Development, conducted a site visit and revealed that the Maara Restobar had been operating on the second floor without the required permissions. Furthermore, he noted that the establishment was serving liquor, which directly violated existing regulatory norms.

The Minister expressed severe dissatisfaction regarding the lack of oversight by the Excise Department. During his visit, Dr. Yathindra Siddaramaiah criticized the department for failing to identify and shut down a business operating without a license. Consequently, he has directed Deputy Commissioner Lakshmikanth Reddy to prepare a formal report, with the intention of placing the Excise DC under suspension for negligence.
