New Delhi, May 27 - The Income Tax Department has enabled online filing of the returns under Form ITR-2 for the assessment year 2026-27 on their e-filing portal. Assessee individuals and HUFs who do not earn income from business or profession but have capital gains can now use this form to file their taxes online, making the process easier and more accessible.

Efficient Tax Filing Process

This move aligns with the department's efforts to facilitate online filing for all categories of taxpayers. Previously, they had already enabled online filling of ITR-1 and ITR-4 forms on May 15, catering to small and medium taxpayers. These forms cover income earned in the fiscal year 2025-26, ensuring that returns can be easily prepared and filed without complications.

With this latest update, assessees have a wide range of options available for their tax-filing needs. The Excel utility is also enabled to assist taxpayers in preparing their return forms accurately and efficiently. This tool simplifies the process, reducing errors and ensuring that all necessary details are correctly entered.

  • ITR-1 and ITR-2 Filing Deadline: July 31
  • ITR-4 Filing Deadline for Non-Audit Taxpayers: August 31
