The Andhra Pradesh Settibalija Corporation has taken a firm stance against the conflation of criminal behavior with caste identity. Kudipudi Sathibabu, the chairman of the corporation, emphasized during a recent media briefing in Rajamahendravaram that justice must follow its designated path without being influenced by community labels. His remarks address the growing concern regarding the association of criminal records with specific social groups, a practice he described as detrimental to societal harmony.
According to Sathibabu, unfairly linking rowdy sheets or criminal investigations to any particular community serves only to damage the collective reputation of that group. He argued that such associations are often part of a broader, more divisive political narrative that seeks to fragment society. By urging the public and media to refrain from utilizing caste as a lens through which to view offenders, he advocated for a more objective approach to maintaining law and order.
Development and Welfare for the Settibalija Community
Beyond his comments on criminal justice, Kudipudi Sathibabu outlined the progress made by the Settibalija Corporation over the previous 18 months. He highlighted that the state government has been actively engaged in advancing welfare programs aimed at supporting the Settibalija, Goud, and other allied communities. These efforts are part of a targeted initiative to strengthen economic livelihoods for these groups throughout Andhra Pradesh.
The corporation has successfully advocated for policy considerations, including potential reservations for the community regarding liquor shop allocations and the issuance of bar licenses. Furthermore, specific proposals have been submitted to provide financial incentives for toddy tappers. This includes a subsidy of 15,000 rupees under the Adarana scheme, designed to assist individuals in procuring necessary tools and transportation equipment with minimal personal financial contribution.
A significant highlight of the corporation's future agenda is the ambitious Neera Project, which aims to modernize and add value to toddy-based industries. The project is set to commence with a pilot phase in the Rampachodavaram region, where 50 local youths will receive specialized training. The subsequent establishment of two production facilities is projected to catalyze significant economic activity, with estimated values reaching 3 crore rupees per unit. By fostering these industrial opportunities, the government intends to generate sustainable employment and drive rural development, reinforcing its commitment to the socio-economic empowerment of the community rather than focusing on divisive political discourse.
