Officials have identified that financial assistance totaling Rs 3.34 crore was mistakenly disbursed to 3,477 beneficiaries who were already deceased at the time of the payments. This discovery has prompted immediate corrective measures by the district authorities to ensure the integrity of the state-run welfare program.
Addressing Gruha Lakshmi Scheme Discrepancies
Bharath Mundodi, chairman of the district-level Guarantee Schemes Implementation Committee, presided over a high-level review meeting at the Dakshina Kannada Zilla Panchayat. During the proceedings, he emphasized the necessity of fiscal discipline and ordered that all funds incorrectly credited to the accounts of the deceased must be recovered and returned to the government treasury. This move aims to curb the wastage of public resources and ensure that financial support is channeled exclusively to eligible living recipients.
To prevent future occurrences of this issue, Mundodi has instructed district officials and leadership at the taluk committee level to initiate a thorough verification process. By focusing on job integration, the administration aims to move beneficiaries from state dependency toward sustainable self-sufficiency.
