Andhra Pradesh is set to advance its commitment to sustainable infrastructure as Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu prepares to launch the final phase of an ambitious induction stove distribution initiative. This major project, scheduled for June 20 in Chilakaluripet, aims to modernize cooking facilities across 55,000 Anganwadi centers throughout the state.

Promoting Clean Energy in Anganwadi Centers

The induction stove distribution program represents a significant milestone in the state’s transition toward clean energy and improved social welfare. By equipping these centers with 1,200-watt induction stoves, the government is not only fostering a cleaner environment but also enhancing safety standards for those responsible for preparing meals for children and mothers. Andhra Pradesh holds the distinction of being the first state in the country to execute such a comprehensive induction stove distribution scheme on a saturation basis.

This initiative operates under the central government’s National Efficient Cooking Programme, managed in collaboration with Energy Efficiency Services Ltd (EESL). This strategic partnership is currently being highlighted by the Union Ministry of Women and Child Development as a national model for best practices in public welfare and infrastructure efficiency.

Efficiency, Safety, and Future Goals

According to officials, shifting from traditional cooking methods to induction technology offers significant benefits. Induction cooking is approximately 30 percent more energy-efficient than LPG while substantially reducing carbon emissions. Furthermore, the initiative is part of a broader government strategy to ensure affordable, reliable energy services. Special Chief Secretary (Energy) K Vijayanand noted that power utilities achieved savings of nearly 190 crore between January and June 2026, largely due to the adoption of these advanced technologies and strategic planning.

The state has demonstrated impressive power management capabilities, even under challenging conditions. On May 23, Andhra Pradesh successfully managed a record peak power demand of 288.9 million units, despite experiencing severe heatwave temperatures reaching 45 to 48 degrees Celsius. This achievement was supported by consistent renewable energy generation and proactive energy-efficiency measures.

The success of this rollout has gained national recognition. Women and Child Welfare Secretary A. Surya Kumari confirmed that the model was lauded at the recent National Conference on Women Development held in Udaipur. Multiple states have expressed interest in adopting similar methodologies to upgrade their local childcare and nutrition infrastructure. By prioritizing these technological upgrades, the state government aims to provide long-term benefits to its citizens while setting a standard for environmental responsibility in public services.
