The political landscape in Madhya Pradesh has intensified as the Congress party formally requested a government White Paper regarding the assets and landed properties of Chief Minister Mohan Yadav and his immediate family. This demand follows recent allegations leveled by state Congress president Jitu Patwari, who has challenged the administration to provide transparency concerning real estate acquisitions.
Allegations and Demands for Transparency
The call for an official disclosure comes after Jitu Patwari held a press conference in Bhopal, where he showcased details concerning assets allegedly linked to the Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister and his kin in Ujjain. The opposition leader expressed frustration over the lack of a substantive response from the state government, noting that nearly 30 hours had passed since his public presentation without a formal explanation from the Chief Minister’s office.
Patwari has escalated the issue by pressing for a judicial inquiry to be conducted by a judge from the Supreme Court. The core of the demand is for the government to account for all land holdings acquired by Mohan Yadav and his family, specifically requesting clarity on the timelines of these acquisitions to dispel concerns regarding potential irregularities.
BJP Response to Property Claims
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has categorically denied all accusations, labeling them as politically motivated attempts to damage the reputation of the Chief Minister. State BJP president Hemant Khandelwal issued a formal statement refuting the claims, emphasizing that there has been no expansion in the land assets held by the Chief Minister or his family since he assumed office in December 2023.
According to Khandelwal, the land holdings of Mohan Yadav have remained consistent at 17 acres, while his wife, Seema Yadav, retains 12.9 acres, unchanged since he took charge. The BJP leadership further clarified that the properties owned by other relatives of the Chief Minister are entirely separate assets and are not associated with the official or personal portfolio of Mohan Yadav. The party emphasized that the figures for the Chief Minister’s son and daughter-in-law, at 16 acres and 10 acres respectively, also reflect no recent additions. Congress leaders have reminded the public that Mohan Yadav previously served as the chairman of the Ujjain Development Authority before joining the ministry of former Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan in 2018, maintaining that their request for a White Paper is a necessary step for public accountability.
