Tourism Minister Jupally Krishna Rao recently conducted a formal site inspection at Bhongir Fort to evaluate the ongoing development initiatives. During the review, the minister emphasized the urgency of completing all planned enhancements by October 2, ensuring that work proceeds efficiently, even if it requires round-the-clock operations.
The state government, under the leadership of Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy, is prioritizing the modernization of this historic site while maintaining its original cultural grandeur. A key focus of this initiative is the development of a Bhongir Fort ropeway system, designed to significantly improve visitor accessibility and elevate the overall tourism experience.
Modernizing Tourism Infrastructure at Bhongir Fort
The central government has sanctioned the project titled “Development of Bhongir Fort Experiential Zone” under the Swadesh Darshan Scheme 2.0, with an approved investment of Rs 56.81 crore. This comprehensive project aims to transform the landmark into a world-class destination by integrating heritage conservation with modern amenities.
The Bhongir Fort ropeway will be a central feature of this development. The system will utilize a monocable jig-back design, spanning approximately 1,020 meters with an elevation difference of about 180 meters. The installation will include seven cabins, each capable of accommodating six passengers, allowing for a capacity of 250 to 300 passengers per hour. This transit solution is part of a larger turnkey effort that includes design, supply, installation, and rigorous testing.
Enhancing Heritage and Visitor Facilities
Beyond the ropeway, the project allocates Rs 38.90 crore for the restoration of heritage structures and the expansion of civil infrastructure. Planned upgrades include the construction of access roads, parking facilities, and storm water drainage systems. Visitors can also expect improved amenities such as new toilet blocks, cafeterias, food kiosks, and an interpretation centre equipped with a tensile structure roof.
Safety and technology integration remain top priorities. The development plan incorporates a robust IT infrastructure, featuring high-definition CCTV surveillance, emergency call boxes, and a 100 Mbps internet lease line for real-time video monitoring. To ensure sustainable operations, the site will feature electric vehicles for internal transport and bio-digester tanks for waste management. By connecting Yadadri, Bhongir Fort, and Kolanupaka, the state aims to establish a cohesive spiritual and heritage tourism circuit that attracts both domestic and international travelers, further cementing the region's status as a premier cultural destination in Telangana.
