AC Milan has announced Massimiliano Allegri's departure as head coach and several senior club members after the team failed to qualify for next season's UEFA Champions League. Allegri, who was appointed last May, could not secure a return to Europe's premier competition, despite leading AC Milan towards their goal of establishing a strong foundation in Serie A.
The club's owners, RedBird Capital, explained that the mandate set out was ambitious: 'To achieve regular participation in the Champions League and consistently compete at the top levels of Italian football.'
Key Changes at AC Milan
In their search for change, they decided to part ways with CEO Giorgio Furlani, sporting director Igli Tare, head coach Massimiliano Allegri, and technical director Geoffrey Moncada. These leadership changes are expected to reorganize the club's football operations effectively.
Allegri had previously co-led AC Milan from 2011 to 2014, but his tenure saw them miss out on consecutive Champions League spots in the last couple of years. This disappointment led RedBird Capital to conclude that a comprehensive restructuring was necessary for the club's future success.
Following the final Serie A home match against Cagliari, where the team lost 2-1 and failed to secure a European spot, AC Milan declared these organizational changes as part of their commitment to rebuilding.
In their statement, RedBird Capital thanked Allegri and his colleagues for their dedication during their respective tenures and announced that they will make further announcements regarding new appointments soon.
