In a significant crackdown on criminal activity in Tirupati, local law enforcement authorities have successfully apprehended four young men allegedly involved in a series of chain-snatching incidents. The suspects, all hailing from the Naidupet mandal, were reportedly motivated by the desire to fund an extravagant and luxurious lifestyle through illicit means.
According to the Tirupati district police, the accused specifically targeted women traveling alone. They would execute these opportunistic crimes using two-wheelers to facilitate quick escapes from the scenes of the offenses. The arrest follows an intensive investigation led by special teams established to address the recent surge in chain-snatching reports across the region.
Investigation and Recovery of Stolen Goods
Additional SP (Crimes) A. Srinivasulu reported that the breakthrough occurred after monitoring surveillance data, which led officers to detain the group near Peddapariya Cross Road in the Ozili mandal. During the operation, police successfully recovered a substantial cache of stolen valuables.
The recovered items include six gold chains, a gold ear ornament, and a total of 128 grams of gold jewelry, with an estimated market value of approximately ₹17 lakh. Furthermore, the authorities seized the two motorcycles utilized by the perpetrators during the commission of their crimes.
During the subsequent interrogation process, the suspects confessed to their involvement in eight distinct chain-snatching offenses. These crimes were concentrated within the jurisdictions of several police stations, including Ozili, Naidupeta, Chittamur, Balayapalli, and Kota. Preliminary investigations revealed that some members of the group had prior records involving theft-related incidents.
