The preliminary data for the initial phase of the Tirupati district Census has been released by local authorities, providing a detailed snapshot of the region's current demographic landscape. According to the official report, the survey, which encompassed all 36 mandals, municipalities, and municipal corporations, identified a total population of 20,63,043 individuals and documented 7,62,767 houses.

Overview of Census Data and Findings

The extensive population enumeration exercise commenced on May 1 and concluded in the early days of June following an extension of the original deadline. Officials noted that the total count of houses exceeded the 2011 census estimates of 7,06,055 units. Conversely, the recorded population figures were lower than the initial projections of 22,17,515, showing a deficit of approximately 1.54 lakh individuals compared to expected demographic trends.

The survey process also categorized residential infrastructure, identifying 1,19,051 houses as vacant and 2,577 units as locked across the Tirupati district. Authorities emphasized that these preliminary numbers provide an essential baseline. A much more comprehensive and finalized demographic profile is anticipated following the second phase of the census, which is currently scheduled to take place in February of next year.

Municipal Corporation and Regional Specifics

Within the specific boundaries of the Tirupati Municipal Corporation, the enumeration recorded 1,66,044 houses, which is a significant increase over the estimated 1,08,016 dwellings. The population within the corporation limits was calculated at 4,50,971, falling below the projected figure of 5,71,055. Current reports indicate that house listing activities were successfully concluded in roughly 79 per cent of the municipal corporation area.

The population enumeration strategy also addressed specific regional challenges, such as the SHAR centre at Sriharikota in Sullurupeta. Due to strict security protocols, the facility was excluded from the first phase of the survey. Revenue Divisional Officer Devendra Reddy confirmed that approximately 3,000 individuals residing at the facility, including high-level scientists and security personnel, will be formally registered during the upcoming second phase.

Despite the restrictions at the main centre, enumerators were able to collect data from surrounding settlements such as DRDL, DOS, and KR Palem colonies. Municipal officials stated that nearly 1,000 houses within these areas were included in the exercise. This effort reflects the broader administrative goal of ensuring that every resident is eventually captured in the district's official records, leading to a clearer demographic picture after the February exercise.
