Telangana Plans Musi Experience Centre to Promote Major Riverfront Rejuvenation Project

The Telangana government is taking proactive steps to engage the public in the ambitious Musi River rejuvenation project. Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy has officially directed state officials to establish a Musi Experience Centre. This facility is envisioned to serve as a hub for raising awareness about the 55-kilometer riverfront development initiative.
Establishing the Musi Experience Centre
The proposed Musi Experience Centre will be strategically located at Necklace Road, in close proximity to the iconic Hussain Sagar lake. According to the state government's mandate, the facility will be designed to showcase various aspects and benefits of the rejuvenation project to the public. Furthermore, the Chief Minister has instructed authorities to implement a structured feedback mechanism, allowing visitors to share their thoughts and suggestions regarding the ongoing urban transformation efforts.
During a high-level review meeting focused on the project's first phase, the Chief Minister emphasized the government's commitment to inclusive development and proper rehabilitation. A key part of the execution strategy involves providing alternative housing for those currently residing in the riverbed area. The authorities have been directed to ensure that these residents are allocated double-bedroom houses as part of the state's rehabilitation framework.
Project Progress and Land Acquisition
In addition to rehabilitation efforts, the government is streamlining the land acquisition process necessary for the project's success. A Revanth Reddy instructed officials to offer affected land owners either fair compensation or Transferable Development Rights (TDR) to facilitate the process smoothly. Regarding the development of the Gandhi Sarovar Project, which is a significant component of the broader rejuvenation plan, the Chief Minister ordered the relocation of structures situated on defense lands to avoid potential delays in project execution.
Recent progress includes the defense authorities granting working permission for the Gandhi Sarovar Project, located near Bapu Ghat. This site holds immense historical significance, as it serves as a memorial dedicated to Mahatma Gandhi, where his ashes were immersed in 1948 at the confluence of the Isa and Musi rivers. The first phase of the massive rejuvenation programme spans the area from Osman Sagar and Himayat Sagar lakes up to the Gandhi Sarovar, representing a major push by the Telangana government to revitalize the regional landscape.
