Telangana Lecturers Urge Expansion of Midday Meal Scheme to All Junior Colleges

The Telangana Gazetted Junior Lecturers’ Association has formally requested the state government to expand the midday meal scheme to cover all government junior colleges across Telangana. While the program is currently operational on a pilot basis, educators are pushing for a comprehensive rollout to ensure equitable access to nutrition for students enrolled in state-run institutions.

Push for Midday Meal Scheme Expansion

The state president of the association, Dr. Vaskula Srinivas, along with state secretary Koppisetti Suresh, highlighted the urgent need for this initiative. They noted that nearly a month has elapsed since the academic session resumed, yet the midday meal scheme remains confined to a very limited number of institutions. By advocating for the expansion of the midday meal scheme, the association aims to support student welfare and address existing gaps in institutional infrastructure.

In addition to nutritional concerns, the union has taken proactive steps to address administrative hurdles facing the education sector. They submitted an online representation to the Chief Minister of Telangana, A. Revanth Reddy. This petition calls for the immediate resolution of long-standing issues affecting the 2023-batch of junior lecturers, as well as broader systemic concerns within government junior colleges.

Addressing Pending Administrative and Legal Issues

A significant portion of the union’s appeal focuses on the implementation of judicial directives. Despite securing a favorable judgment from the Telangana High Court, the association reports that the government has yet to fully enact the required changes. These pending matters include the processing of increments and other unresolved grievances that continue to impact the workforce.

The leadership emphasized that the extension of the midday meal scheme and the resolution of lecturer-related grievances are critical for the smooth functioning of the state’s education system. By bringing these issues to the attention of A. Revanth Reddy, the union is seeking a timely and decisive government intervention to improve conditions for both students and teaching staff.
