In a significant move to tackle frequent power outages, the government has finalized the induction of 401 new personnel into the Tamil Nadu Power Distribution Corporation Ltd. This recruitment drive, focused on enhancing service delivery and grid reliability, includes 383 assistant engineers and 18 assistant accounts officers, all selected through the Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission (TNPSC) via a rigorous, transparent process.
The formal distribution of appointment orders took place on Wednesday at Kalaivanar Arangam. During the proceedings, a notable moment of compassion occurred when Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay personally stepped down from the dais to assist R Akshaya Lakshmi. Recognizing that the recruit was in her 40th week of pregnancy, the Chief Minister opted to walk down to her position to hand over her appointment letter, thereby sparing her from the physical strain of climbing the stairs.
Addressing Infrastructure and Employment Needs
This initiative is part of a broader strategy to revitalize the state’s energy infrastructure. Following a recent review meeting, it was identified that approximately 70,000 vacancies across various departments were impacting operational efficiency. To bridge this gap, the Chief Minister has directed that a goal be set to fill at least 15,000 positions within the next year. This policy shift aims to ensure uninterrupted power supply while simultaneously creating meaningful employment opportunities for the state’s youth.
State officials emphasized that these new 401 personnel appointments underscore a firm commitment to transparent governance. By bolstering the workforce within the Energy Department, the administration intends to improve overall operational efficacy, which has been under scrutiny due to recurring power disruptions. The current government administration, led by the TVK, has previously outlined an ambitious roadmap, including a promise to generate 5 lakh government jobs across various sectors.
The appointment ceremony was attended by key state officials, including the State Minister for Energy Resources C T R Nirmal Kumar, Chief Secretary M Saikumar, Tamil Nadu Electricity Board Chairman J Radhakrishnan, and the Principal Secretary of the Energy Department, Anil Meshram. These administrative efforts signify a concerted attempt to modernize public services and improve day-to-day governance in Tamil Nadu.
