Tense conditions recently unfolded at the Eluru residence of advocate Edpuganti Srinivas, a former Telugu Desam (TD) party official. The situation escalated on Sunday night when Denduluru MLA Chintamaneni Prabhakar, accompanied by a large group of his supporters, arrived at the property, leading to a significant security mobilization.
Confrontation at the Residence and Police Intervention
According to reports regarding the incident, the assembly of individuals near the home of Edpuganti Srinivas resulted in a volatile atmosphere. Allegations surfaced suggesting that attempts were made to damage property at the location, with reports indicating that machinery, specifically a JCB, was utilized during the disturbance. Local law enforcement from the II-Town police station was dispatched to the scene to restore order and manage the gathering.
Edpuganti Srinivas, who previously served as a vice-president for the Telugu Desam legal wing, had maintained a documented political history with Chintamaneni Prabhakar. However, internal friction developed between the two figures over the preceding years. Supporters of Srinivas stated that he had been vocal regarding various local issues within the Denduluru constituency, including concerns about sand mining and liquor distribution policies. These supporters further claimed that their leader faced significant criticism and online harassment from cohorts associated with the MLA.
Political Fallout and Preventive Measures
On Monday, tensions threatened to reignite when followers of Srinivas attempted to approach the residence of Chintamaneni Prabhakar. Police forces quickly intervened to prevent any further escalation or physical confrontation between the opposing groups. Following these events, the Eluru II Town police took Srinivas into preventive custody, and he was subsequently presented before a court.
The incident also led to formal disciplinary action within the political organization. Badeti Radhakrishna (Chanti), the Eluru district Telugu Desam president and local legislator, officially announced that Edpuganti Srinivas has been suspended from the party. Radhakrishna clarified that while Srinivas had held the position of vice-president in the legal cell in the past, he was not currently occupying any active organizational role. The suspension was reportedly enacted following public allegations that Srinivas had directed objectionable remarks toward Chintamaneni Prabhakar. As investigations continue, authorities remain focused on maintaining peace in the region and addressing the underlying causes of the local dispute. The situation highlights the ongoing political volatility within the constituency as leadership continues to address internal disciplinary issues.
