Concerns surrounding the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Telangana have intensified following statements made by Mohammed Azharuddin. As the minister for minorities welfare and public enterprises, Azharuddin has raised significant apprehensions regarding the potential for voter deletions during the current enrollment exercise.
Speaking after the ‘Prajalatho Mukhamukhi’ (Face-to-Face) grievance redressal session held at Gandhi Bhavan, Azharuddin highlighted the possibility that this administrative process might disproportionately affect specific communities. Drawing comparisons to electoral strategies allegedly observed in states like West Bengal and Bihar by the central ruling NDA, the minister cautioned that the systematic removal of voters from the rolls could be a calculated maneuver. He strongly urged citizens from minority backgrounds to remain vigilant and personally verify their registration status throughout the door-to-door enumeration phase of the SIR.
Addressing Concerns and Civic Duties
Beyond his warnings regarding the voter deletions, Azharuddin expressed support for the state government, commending Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy for his focus on policies dedicated to the upliftment of marginalized sections of society. Furthermore, the minister firmly rejected allegations of corruption recently leveled by the opposition BRS, labeling these accusations as entirely meritless.
The ‘Prajalatho Mukhamukhi’ program, which has been restarted to facilitate direct engagement between the public and government officials, proved productive during this session. Azharuddin reviewed over 200 applications from citizens, providing immediate resolutions for approximately 50 grievances by coordinating directly with the district collector and relevant authorities present on-site. This initiative underscores the administration's attempt to streamline public service delivery at the grassroots level.
Preparations for Muharram
In his capacity as a minister, Azharuddin also conducted an inspection of several historical and religious landmarks in Hyderabad, including Bibi-Ka-Alawa in Dabeerpura. The visit was aimed at overseeing civic and security arrangements ahead of the upcoming Muharram commemorations.
The minister issued explicit instructions to officials representing the GHMC, water works, and sanitation departments, demanding efficient public utility services with no scope for delays or negligence. His inspection tour also covered other prominent sites, such as Ashur Khana Khidmat-e-Rasool, Azakhana-e-Tashreehat, and Bashiyyah Ashur Khana, where he assessed the progress of ongoing restoration efforts. By emphasizing both the integrity of the democratic process through voter deletions oversight and the maintenance of essential civic infrastructure, the minister’s recent activities highlight a busy administrative schedule focused on both local welfare and political discourse.
