  • The BJP accused the Congress party of a colonial mindset and hypocritical foreign policy stances.
  • BJP spokesperson N.V. Subhash demanded accountability for the Congress party's focus on foreign figures.
  • The BJP contrasts this move with its own record of honoring Indian civilizational icons.

The state unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has launched a sharp verbal attack on the Congress leadership in Telangana. This controversy erupted after Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy announced plans to rename a road situated near the US Consulate in Hyderabad to “Donald Trump Avenue”. The BJP has characterized this decision as evidence of a “slaver mentality” within the ruling party.

State BJP president N. Ramchander Rao heavily criticized the move, accusing the Congress administration of blatant hypocrisy. The BJP has frequently claimed that the Congress party maintains a narrative that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is overly accommodating to the United States. Rao argued that by rushing to honor a prominent American figure, the Congress leadership is contradicting its own past assertions regarding foreign policy and national pride.

Ideological Clash Over Renaming

According to N. Ramchander Rao, this incident highlights a deep cultural and ideological divide between the two political entities. He alleged that while the BJP focuses on celebrating Indian civilizational icons and dismantling symbols associated with colonial or external influence, the Congress repeatedly seeks to elevate foreign figures. Rao also questioned the silence of Rahul Gandhi regarding this specific renaming initiative, suggesting it exposes a significant contradiction in the party's moral stance.

The criticism was further amplified by the chief spokesperson of the state BJP, N.V. Subhash. He demanded a clear explanation from the Chief Minister regarding which leadership is truly demonstrating subservience to international figures. Subhash contrasted this current situation with the naming conventions adopted by previous BJP administrations under Atal Bihari Vajpayee and Narendra Modi, which he claimed were consistently focused on highlighting indigenous heroes and legacy.

The BJP leadership further alleged that the Congress continues to preserve colonial-era legacies while engaging in selective political symbolism for vote bank purposes. Subhash warned that the state government’s current approach to governance is becoming increasingly disconnected from public sentiment. He predicted that such displays of political opportunism would lead to negative consequences for the administration when voters head to the polls in the future, urging the public to hold the state government accountable for these actions.
