  • Focus on Active Participation to Continue Benefits

In a significant development for India's agriculture sector, farmers deemed inactive under the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi scheme will not receive their installment payments. The Government of India has decided to cease such payments, focusing instead on verifying active farmers through comprehensive digital surveys.

Hamirpur District Survey Progress

The Agriculture Department in Hamirpur district, Himachal Pradesh, is nearing the conclusion of a thorough digital agricultural survey. By March 2023, 184,174 out of 314,139 surveyed farmers received approval. This represents 59.11 percent of the district's farming community.

Despite significant progress, many farmers remain unregistered. To address this, local representatives and Panchayat Assistants are visiting homes to facilitate registration. The department emphasizes that inactive farmers will no longer qualify for installment payments in the future.

Impact on Farmers

The survey aims to distinguish between active farmers who continue with their agricultural activities and those who have ceased farming. Farmers who find themselves categorized as inactive face potential suspension of their Kisan Samman Nidhi benefits, which are crucial for supporting rural livelihoods.

The Department encourages active participation, noting that numerous farmers still haven't registered due to lack of information or technical issues. Awareness campaigns at the Panchayat level aim to ensure no eligible farmer is left out in this scheme.
