There appears to be no immediate end in sight to the conflict between the United States and Iran. In light of this ongoing tension, India’s oil supplies have faced significant disruptions, particularly through the Strait of Hormuz shipping lane.

The shortage of 14.2-kilogram LPG cylinders has caused considerable inconvenience for Indian consumers. State-run oil companies are now exploring a novel strategy to mitigate the situation by issuing only 10 kilograms of gas per standard cylinder.

While critics argue that reducing cylinder capacity will stretch supply too thin, proponents believe this approach can efficiently distribute available gas resources across more households, despite potential inconvenience for daily users. The Indian government is committed to maintaining a balanced response while minimizing public discomfort.

A recent reduction in incoming shipments from the Gulf region has only exacerbated India's already tight inventory situation. As of last week, only two vessels managed to enter the country, each delivering around 92,700 tons of LPG—enough for just one full day’s consumption of the gas. Six Indian-flagged tankers remain stranded in the Persian Gulf, awaiting clearance by maritime authorities.

Despite these logistical challenges, official advice is urging the public to adopt a more frugal approach towards gas usage, as the shortfall has far-reaching implications for both domestic and industrial energy needs across India.
