The Delhi government has announced a new initiative, Rah Veer Yojana, aimed at saving lives by incentivizing quick response to road accident victims, marking the first time it is adopting the central government's Raahveer Scheme.
The scheme will award Rs 25,000 to those who transport seriously injured individuals to the hospital within the 'golden hour' following a road accident. Additionally, the top 10 road heroes recognized annually will receive a national-level reward of Rs 100,000.
The head of Delhi government, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, has expressed her commitment to the scheme by promising to reward individuals who assist and transport casualties swiftly and without hesitation, given the fear of legal repercussions.
The Delhi government's move aims at addressing the reluctance of citizens to help accident victims by introducing the Good Samaritan Rules, which offer protection to those who voluntarily assist, mitigating the chances of unnecessary legal conflicts and pressure.
