In a significant boost for regional tourism, Chief Minister Anumula Revanth Reddy has officially inaugurated several new facilities at the Kinnerasani Wildlife Sanctuary, located in the Bhadradri-Kothagudem district of Telangana. The virtual launch included the introduction of two new safari vehicles, updated trekking routes, a dedicated butterfly park, and improved infrastructure, such as a feeding shed for the deer park and a new concrete road.
The Kinnerasani Wildlife Sanctuary, which spans approximately 635 square kilometers, is renowned for its picturesque lake and diverse ecosystem. It serves as a natural habitat for a wide array of wildlife, including leopards, gaurs, and spotted deer, along with numerous avian species. By introducing specialized safari vehicles, authorities aim to enhance the experience for visitors, allowing them to observe the sanctuary’s rich biodiversity safely and conveniently.
Enhancing the Kinnerasani Wildlife Sanctuary Experience
The new safari vehicles, procured for a total cost of ₹45 lakh, are strategically positioned to optimize tourist movement. One vehicle is designated to travel between the Deer Park and the Kinnerasani Watch Tower, while the other will operate on a route connecting the Harini Watch Tower at Mandarikilapadu with the Deer Park.
Highlighting the ecological importance of the area, Kothagudem MLA Kunamneni Sambasiva Rao referred to the sanctuary as the "lungs of Telangana" during the launch event. He emphasized that the district currently possesses the largest forest cover in the state, making it a prime candidate for nature-based tourism. Future development plans for the site are ambitious, with proposals already in place for the addition of a glass house, a dedicated zoo, enhanced boating services, and high-quality tourist lodging to attract more visitors to the Kinnerasani Wildlife Sanctuary.
Complementing these tourism initiatives, district collector Ankit shared details about a major environmental drive. As part of the upcoming Vana Mahotsavam, the district aims to plant 55 lakh saplings, with the task distributed across 42 local departments to ensure widespread coverage. District Forest Officer G. Kista Goud noted that the forest spans over eight lakh acres, further solidifying the district's status as a green hub in the state. Local officials, including Kothagudem Mayor Moodu Ganesh, were present to oversee the inauguration of these developments, which are expected to transform the region into a major tourist destination.
