  • Andhra Pradesh allocates ₹920 crore for Prakasam's horticultural development
  • Prioritizes Veligonda Phase-II and Korisapadu Reservoir to promote irrigation
  • Expected to improve rural road connectivity, support produce transportation
  • Aims at diversifying economy and generating youth employment

With a significant allocation of ₹920 crore, the Andhra Pradesh government is poised to revitalize the horticulture sector in the erstwhile Prakasam district through the Integrated Horticultural Development (IHD) Project. This project, announced on a Sunday by Social Welfare Minister Dr. Dola Sri Bala Veeranjaneya Swamy, aims at enhancing rural infrastructure and irrigation facilities over the next three years.

Investing in Rural Connectivity and Irrigation

The minister stated that water management projects such as Veligonda Phase-II, Korisapadu Reservoir, and Paleru Reservoir will be prioritized under this initiative to foster horticultural development. These measures are expected to transform the rural landscape of Prakasam and Markapuram districts by improving road connectivity and laying a robust foundation for agro-based growth.

By strengthening rural road infrastructure, farmers can optimize the logistics of transporting their produce more efficiently to markets, ensuring better prices and reduced post-harvest losses. The allocation is significant as it's aimed at promoting horticultural projects that can diversify the local economy and generate employment for the youth.

Prakasam district stands to benefit from this substantial injection of resources, with the minister expressing confidence that the programme will increase the cultivation of horticultural crops and position the region as a major hub in the sector. The project also foresees generating direct and indirect employment opportunities, which is critical for economic development.
